We’ve not been in Miami 24 hours and already had the pleasure of seeing Soulwax/2ManyDJs and
SALEM (
Issue 6) all in one night. All in attendance at last night can attest to it being SALEM’s best performance yet, with plenty of fog, strobes and strippers in a pool. Tonight we’ll head to
OHWOW for the opening of the group exhibition
Materialism featuring
Peter Coffin (
Issue 5) and
Lucien Marc Smith (
Issue 7). Look for more updates throughout the weekend...
As Torontonians, we grew up with
Club Monaco, which was founded here in 1985 by Joe Mimran and Alfred Sung. And so, we were very pleased to be invited to preview the latest capsule collection by
A Continuous Lean for Club Monaco at its freshly renovated flagship store this past weekend.
ACL’s Michael Williams gave us a tour of the new Men’s Shop, which features carefully-chosen artisanal goods from folks like
Tanner and
Archival Clothing, while Vice Prez, Aaron Levine took us on an expedition through the bowels of the historic building (University of Toronto’s old Department of Household Science). Look out for their New York launch in the near future!
On Thursday 17 November,
Miranda July will be at the
Partners & Spade studio in New York City to launch her new book,
It Chooses You, within a collaboratively-designed resale shop. July and her team (including our own Jackie Linton) scoured classifieds to find and buy once-meaningful objects, interview the owner, and re-package the found objects for sale at their original price. July's book is also tied in with her recent film,
The Future which will be available on DVD or download November 29th,
here.
For the launch of his new book entitled
Incubi et Succubi, photographer
Lele Saveri (
Issue 9) will make an appearance at
Donlon Books in London on Thursday 17 November at 7PM to sign books and present his short film,
To Lie Under, which is a collaboration with video-maker Giulia Maria Venturini. You can check out a teaser trailer of the film
here.
Artist Alex Wolfson (
Issue 8) presents his new exhibition
The F.E.K. Archives: This is making me nervous... this evening at
Mercer Union, Toronto. The show takes its title from an existing artwork in Adán Calderón’s archives of philosopher/writer Fernanda Eva Karon, an installation which has been recreated for this exhibition by Wolfson. Karon’s story is one of mystery, disappearing forever into the Argentine wilderness after spending the winter of ’37 in an isolated cabin. Wolfson will surely elaborate on this subject and more at an artist talk the following Wednesday, also at Mercer Union.
